This exclusive architectural “one-of-a-kind” is located on Wartenbergstrasse, in a quiet residential street in the popular Gellert quarter. The villa was designed by the Basel architectural firm Suter & Burckhardt in 1901 and completed in 1903. It is assumed that this impressive building was one of the first projects of the two friends from their youth, Rudolf Suter (1871-1932) and Otto Burckhardt (1872-1952), as they founded their joint architectural firm during the year the project was commissioned. It was much later that this former connection resulted in the companies Suter & Suter (1945) and Burckhardt Architekten (1951). The spacious building is impressive because of its unique front façade. A closer look reveals that this uniqueness and the playfulness of the façade design are probably mainly due to the somewhat randomly arranged windows and their different sizes.
