Designed by the Vevey architects Ernest Burnat and Charles Nicati, the Hôtel National de Montreux was built in 1874 in a style inspired by the châteaux of the French Renaissance, with high roofs adorned with brick chimneys. The Hôtel National enjoys a spectacular panoramic view of the Dents-du-Midi thanks to the architect Eugène Jost, who in 1898 added a floor to the National (two years earlier, he had also built the Galerie des Galeries marchandes, providing the hotel’s clientele with a shopping environment). After being abandoned in the last quarter of the 20th century, the Hôtel National was revived by being transformed into a luxury real estate complex.
