Originally built in 1910 as a small shoemaker’s cottage, the Montana house was extended to its current size between 1928 and 1932. In 1932 the owner founded the shoe company Kandahar AG, which produced the high-quality Kandahar shoes in Mürren for over 30 years. Next door was the Murmeli house, a souvenir shop that was taken over by the Montana house owners in 1995.
