Engadine house in Art Nouveau style on the church square
The historic Engadine house "Chasa Plaz" was built in 1750 and completely renovated in the Belle Époque style in 1893 and 1912 by the couple Anna von Planta and Theodor Bonorand. The last major renovation work was carried out only recently, around 2000 and 2010. As the name suggests, the house is situated in a beautiful location directly on the historic church square of Ardez. The quiet and picturesque village of Ardez is considered a model village of Romanesque settlement and living culture and its village landscape, which has remained largely unchanged since the 17th century, with its characteristic presence of the Steinfels castle ruins, is of unique beauty. In 1975, Ardez was chosen as one of the four Swiss model villages, a fact that resulted in numerous exemplary restorations supervised by the cantonal monument preservation department.
